Lingual Braces worth it for IB?

I’m a senior that just got a return offer and was looking into different options for braces for ft since my teeth have been pretty crooked since forever. Some popular options were ceramic, clear aligners, but I was most drawn to lingual braces since they have no visibility at all. Does anyone have any experience with lingual? Is it worth it/do they get in the way of the job? This is all new to me so any insight would be very appreciated

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there isn't specific mention of lingual braces in the context provided. However, there are discussions about Invisalign and braces in general for investment banking roles. Here are some insights that might help:

  1. Discretion and Professional Appearance: Lingual braces are a great option for maintaining a professional appearance since they are hidden behind the teeth. This aligns well with the high standards of presentation often expected in investment banking.

  2. Comfort and Speech: Lingual braces can sometimes affect speech initially, which might be a concern in a client-facing role. However, most people adapt over time. If your role involves frequent presentations or calls, this adjustment period is worth considering.

  3. Time Management for Appointments: Like Invisalign or other orthodontic treatments, lingual braces require regular adjustments. Depending on your location and work schedule, you may need to coordinate these appointments carefully. Some WSO threads highlight that employers may allow short absences for medical appointments, but this varies by firm and team culture.

  4. Practicality in a Demanding Job: Investment banking is known for long hours and high stress. Lingual braces might require more maintenance or adjustments compared to clear aligners like Invisalign. Ensure you're prepared for the commitment alongside your demanding schedule.

If you're drawn to lingual braces for their invisibility, they could be a solid choice, but weigh the potential impact on speech and the logistics of appointments. If you're still unsure, consulting with an orthodontist about your specific needs and timeline before starting your full-time role would be wise.

1000% recommend lingual. I started with Invisalign but it honestly sucked - hard to keep consistent with wearing them and also very annoying to take off between meals. Also if you’re worried about people noticing that you’re straightening your teeth then lingual is the superior option, they sit nicely behind your teeth so very discreet. I would say lingual are the more expensive option but far far better imo (plus usually delivered by a highly skilled specialist doctor)

You may get a slight lisp at the beginning / sometimes when the braces are incrementally tightened. But nothing major - I had them in my first year in banking and didn’t notice it too much
