Military Uniform to Office of local MD...?...

Through networking, I've connected to a local MD who asked me to swing by his office in a few days in the middle of the work day. Is it going to be completely inappropriate for me to show up at his office in uniform? Changing into civilian attire in the middle of the work day would not be completely impossible, but would draw a lot of scrutiny and would be fairly unacceptable at my current assignment.

My thinking: I'm not interviewing, I'm just talking to the guy. I'm not necessarily interested in working for his company , although one never knows. I have a job... this job requires me to be in that uniform and it is the middle of the work day for both of us...
(The uniform is the 'equivalent' of suit).

I don't think this is that big of a deal... but just wanted to get opinions on this...

Thanks for the input...

When I first read your post, I thought to myself, my god... lets not try and toot our own horn too loud. That was my first thought, as showing up in full uniform draws a substantial amount of attention to yourself, but after reading your entire post I think you will be just fine. I say that b/c you make a very rational / clear argument as to why you will have to wear your uniform, which you should explain to him briefly right when you say hello.

And the stain might add a nice touch.

Yeah, maybe try to explain why you have to wear it because wearing a military uniform may seem weird to some people (I would think it's kind of strange if there wasn't an excuse)... plus you let the boss know who's boss

So we're talking a service uniform? If that's the case, I'd wear it. If we were talking camo and utility, then change. Its an informal meeting, so I wouldn't go out of the way to change, particularly if you are going back to needing the service uniform when you are done meeting with the guy anyway.

I don't know which branch you're in, but if you're referring to your service uniform it should take you about 3 or 4 minutes to change. Nothing is more obnoxious to other veterans than seeing a person in uniform outside of a military work setting. Whether you intend it or not, it screams that you need people to notice you. Take the total of 8-10 minutes and change into something more appropriate.

I wore it...he said, "never apologize for wearing that uniform." Rupert, I hear your point... and didn't really think about it... but realized when I changed in the parking garage from one uniform to the other for my next event... probably could of worn the business clothes. Oh well. I hear all of these points but on the other hand, it was during my work day in a downtown area... it just didn't seem that abnormal. I wouldn't do it for an interview to say the least...

Good stuff. I like how he said it better than all of us with one sentence haha.

I think this thread should be edited so the first response is what the MD said with the rest of the comments deleted... then it should be the first thing that comes up when you search anything related to this. Cause that pretty much sums it up perfectly.

I don't think anyone here would disagree that you should never apologize for wearing your uniform. I think the sentiment behind most of the posts was that there are certain times and places where the uniform is less appropriate than civilian attire.
