Shaved Head

Looking through all the threads on this topic, it appears that there are not many serious answers to this question, so I'll ask it here. What are your opinions on a student completely shaving his head when applying for SA/FTA positions? I normally keep long hair, but recently cut it short a few months ago. Unfortunately, my hair is visibly thinning, and it's quite odd to see that happening to someone my age, so I decided to just go fully bald and shave it off, haha. I actually like the way it looks! I think I would actually like to keep this look.

That being said, I know that the banking space is fairly conservative, so I'm not sure about what others would think of such a young person sporting a bald/shaved head. What do you guys think? I certainly have time to grow it out until the next recruiting season. My choices are basically keep it at a respectable length, but be visibility thin in the front, or just go bald. I'm not one to stress too much about my vanity (which is probably why I just took the razor to my head out of no where, lol), but I know that image does mean a lot in this wonderful world of ours.

Thanks for the input!

Have you thought about buzzing it down short, but not going Mr. Clean?

Thanks for the reply. That may indeed be a better way to go. Perhaps I should just buzz it short with a #1 or #2.

Nothing looks worse then guys trying to retain the false belief that their hair is not thinning. Shaving your head makes you look more honest.

Good to know. Yeah, I don't want to be the guy trying to hold onto something he's about to lose. Might as well own it! It's weird, I usually have pretty long hair, but I am liking this shaved look, haha. I suppose I am just fortunate in that I don't have any bumps or indents in my head. Also, perhaps copecre is right, and I should just do a short buzz and not go all the way with the blade. Perhaps it would be more professional that way?

Agreed. I started thinning in high school after rocking long hair (almost shoulder length), went no guard until I was 24, super easy, no maintenance, then I got more thin but no gray so it looked like this weird patchy black fuzzy thing. Then I went straight bald, great decision. Helps me seem older (which helps my business), ladies love it, and again, easy maintenance.

Just make sure you're liberal with sunscreen when golfing, running, on the beach, whatever. There are few things in life more uncomfortable than having a sunburned scalp.

Yeah, I was close to shoulder length as well. Perhaps instead of the blade I can just do it without a guard (would certainly save me more time, but a somewhat less close of a cut), or do what copecre mentioned, and take it off with a close guard to try to be a little more professional. You mentioned that you used no guard at a young age, and I suppose you didn't have any "lack-of-professionalism" issues? Perhaps that would be the best thing to do. If anything, it would make haircuts really low maintenance!

Haha, I could only imagine how bad a sunburned scalp would be!

I have my hair cut to number 2 up top, number 1 everywhere else. No one calls me unprofessional (at least not to my face).

Edit: And my boss is at least number 2 all over, if not 1.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Depends on the shape of your head to be honest. Some people look good some don't. The absolute worst thing you can do is try a combover or some way of hiding it. Just own it and you should be fine. Fuck the haters.

New YorkerMaybe try hair transplantation? I don't see why not? I think it's between 4 and 5k. A few grand is certainly worth a head full of hair.

Plugs look like shit. Everyone can tell you have them and it's admitting a weakness. Screw that.

Can you see yourself being completely bald? Have you ever been completely bald? Some people can pull of the bald look, others can't...it really depends on the shape of your head. Maybe get someone to photo shop your head bald?

Personally, i know I'll look terrible without hair...i rather a semi receding hairline than a completely bald look.

Im going to do it and post a picture afterwards...maybe by tomorrow...going out to get trashed now so the picture could be funny

It's true. Short and half-bald is still better than combing. And if it suits you, it's going to be hot. Especially if you are young and into sports.

And it will def teach you to smile more honestly to make up for the Nazi comparison.s

Here's a lady's perspective: Bald >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> desperately hanging on to receding hair. It's much better to pull off bald with confidence, as in "I don't give a fuck, I'm bald and you will like it." If you have a handsome face, it will help, too. Also, no goatee or stupid shit like that with it, or you'll look like that ugly dude from the Matrix. Some scruff is fine, but nothing excessive.

Rest assured I have a dashing face and am not fat...I am drinking bourbon like its water at the moment so no doubt it will happen

Shave your head, tan every 12 hours, pierce both ears, and take up Muay Thai. You will be a badass with style.

I did it...I look like a skinhead and a small child started crying today at the gym when I waved at him...mission accomplished

Damn, I'm too late, sorry happy. What you should have done is get a #1 buzzed all around, that way you own and acknowledge the hairline, but don't look like a light-source.

This is it right here. Don't go bald as in razor bald, just do a no guard on the clippers or a 1. I have a ton of friends that have done both and it takes a certain person to pull off bald. Also, for the sake of ease, as Anthony pointed out, just go with a 1 and you can do it yourself, save some money and lots of time (and pain).

Lets see some pics man!!

I think the best strategy is to start stuff like transplants, Rogaine etc. as soon as you see any signs of thinning. If you waited until after it's obvious you're balding (or obvious you're going grey etc.), then everybody knows that 1) You tried to fix it using such measures 2) It's something that makes you insecure enough to resort to (1).

I just entered my 20s, so it'll be some time before I get to this stage, but I'm sorta dreading it...

I would wait until I'm at least 30 to do this. Quite frankly, I would think that something's wrong with you if you're 21-22 yrs right out of college and already bald.

Moneyball You may be physically less attractive, but you'll also be making more money, which makes you exponentially more attractive anyways.
