Should I shave my beard *completely* for interviews even if I have a baby-face?
I'm about to begin interviewing for IB/AM internships for Junior year summer. I have always had a baby-face, and if I shave, I look a solid 5 years younger than the 24 that I am. However, if I leave just a little bit of well-trimmed beard, I look like I could be another 5 years older than my age.
Is the shave-before-interview still applicable for people with baby-faces? Or do you feel as though there is some wiggle room?
Hey philbegas, I swear if I had a silver banana for every lonely thread I posted too I'd be richer than @compbanker ...
You're welcome.
I don't work in IB/AM but know that in consulting it is much more important to appear "seasoned" and as an "expert". If you were interviewing in our industry I'd tell you to have a well-kept beard.
I don't work in IB/AM (I'm an RE guy) but I am in the same boat. I keep a well trimmed beard and nobody has ever made a negative comment about it.
Not from the US but here in Europe having a beard is fine if well trimmed.

Shave, you don't want to risk the interviewer thinking you didn't take the position seriously enough to conform to a clean look. Even if only 1 out of 5 people would find your beard unprofessional, you don't want to take any chances during an important interview The best thing about beards is they grow back. As soon as you get a decent position, you can go full Viking.
Shave, I have been told that in IB either have a full beard (if you had this before joining) or shave. Stubble is not seen as ok by most, maybe some wiggle room in regionals but in New York it’s a no
Keep the beard groomed or shave it up to you but most importantly nail the interview. If they think you would be an excellent asset in their bank, they will not care if you have a shaved beard, a groomed beard or a baby face.
If you shave your beard, people will know that you are a toxic man.
