Should I spend $1,000 on this watch?
Ok - ignore the fact that its a fashion/designer watch.
How do you think this would look in a professional setting? Never considered a blue watch but something about this just caught my eye.

If it's by a designer, and it's new, don't walk, run. (If it's not new, it's probably selling for less than $100 and it probably runs as well as a Timex, so maybe it's a good buy.)
Seriously, spending $1000 on a watch tells folks how poor you are. If you must have a watch, just buy a timex or a swatch and tell folks how thrifty you are.
If you have the money, buy a used Rolex Submariner on Ebay.

On the OP's watch: 1) yeah, designer watch - no - but I do like the design except for... 2) Blue. I almost bought a blue watch (except it was an IWC, not designer). They didn't have one in my size and I went with black. Best. Decision. Ever.

Agreed. Ferragamo is in the business of leather - not watch craftsmanship. If you want a $1k watch look to Movado, Victorinox, Tissot or maybe some low end Tags.

No for two major reasons. One, designers don't make good watches. Two, there's a huge grey market for watches which will save you a significant amount of money.
Yeah, buy the Ferragamo watch on Ebay and if you still want to say you spent $1000 on a watch, give me the other $973.

No please do not buy that. Blue face and blue croc strap from a designer brand is not the way to go for a banker. In the 1k range there are plenty of good quality watches that are cool and understated..check out Victorinox, Hamilton, Timex and the comparables.
First off, ignore anyone who says all $1k watches are a waste of money and show someone who is not thrifty. Anyone who doesn't see the value in a work of art which displays history, wonderful engineering and pure class has no respect for art, culture or history so I for one don't take them very seriously.
I agree with bondarb and his list of watches. Now you don't want to buy some psuedo-luxury watch if you are attempting to look like a young investment professional (i.e. don't buy a 1k dollar breitling, tag, maurice lacroix,). Victorinox, especially uses the same movements that these costly guys do, for a fraction of the price check out the victorinox infantry vintage automatic chrnograph. It uses a great movement has a lot of complications and I've seen the sapphire crystal it uses and it is beautiful. It comes off to anyone who knows watches like a 4-5 thousand dollar watch, I got mine for half its going price (it goes for 2k i got one for 1k) and from an authorized dealer with warranty. You can get great prices if you go to the right AD's, as in don't go to zales, macy's, or any other well known department/jewelry store where it doesn't feel right to negotiate price.
Buying a watch over a grand has brought you into investment range, and you should certainly treat it as one.
I'd say online offers better values, but you have to know what you are doing, that's not my area of expertise, also there is something to be said about looking at them in person.
I wouldn't buy a Rolex / IWC / Omega / Breitling online - too many fakes out there.
Also, watch out for Friends and Family sales. For example, I know TAG has one every year, usually sometime in the spring/summer. The watches that are on those sales are about half off. Just find the code and your in.
I don't know about other brands, but I'm sure they have something similar.
