Slim ties & tie clips?

Preparing for my first day of work.
Was wondering if slim ties are acceptable?
(not skinny but slightly slimmer than ordinary ones)
And what are your thoughts on tie-clips? or vests?

I think it needs to be proportional. If you have a smaller frame and properly fitting shirts, sometimes a slimmer tie looks more proper than fat ass regular tie.

But to echo what everyone else, don't get a hipster slim tie, get a more conservative "slightly slimmer than normal modern fitting" tie.

Maybe that is too much, but I do like the one OP posted. It looks fine to me.

In a smaller place, they're much more forgiving but the bigger you go, the more cookie cutter conservative it gets. Personally, I like wacky colors, so leaving the boutique I'm at will be a soul crushing experience.

If you're a slim guy it's fine, I wouldn't go ultra-slim though. I mean the exception is if you are a pretty big guy (think former wrestler, football player, powerlifter, etc) - I would never wear a slim tie, not because it would be wrong, but because it would look stupid and bad. If it looks fine, it's not a problem, just make sure you don't look like your chest is eating the tie.

It really depends how slim you're talking about. If you're talking about vintage ties, like the ones they have on Mad Men, those are probably too slim (they're around 2.5-2.75"). Personally, I love skinny ties but if you're the most junior guy at a huge bank, you might not want to wear them just because the corporate culture there doesn't necessarily seem to welcome sartorial creativity.

On the other hand, if you want a tie that's just not too wide, 3.25" or so is ideal. Most of my ties for everyday wear are between 3.25" and 3.50". I have a slim and athletic build and definitely prefer these to wider ties (really anything about 3.75" in my opinion).

white shirt, conservative tie, regular navy-blue/charcoal suit. Don't get fancy dude.

Wall Street leaders now understand that they made a mistake, one born of their innocent and trusting nature. They trusted ordinary Americans to behave more responsibly than they themselves ever would, and these ordinary Americans betrayed their trust.
