Thoughts on this watch?
I know how much attention watches get on here, so what are your thoughts on these? Work appropriate? Before you set in on the 'save up for an IWC' thing, I'm not a huge watch guy and the value isn't there for me. That being said, feel free to make fun of me if need be.
A designer watch? Maybe work appropriate, but people will laugh at you for spending $600 for a watch that can be had for $60 on Ebay. Either that or we will think you are cheap for buying a $60 watch on Ebay. :D :D Can't win with a designer watch. Maybe go with a Citizen mechanical movement instead?
Just curious IP, what's on your wrist?
Second the above - if you didn't "see the value" of going all out for an expensive watch, then you should also avoid paying $600 for a designer watch because a lot of them are made with no-name low-end movements; IP is right, people (that know watches, or have some basic knowledge in this area) will laugh because you're paying an unnecessary premium
For that amount you can probably find a respectable second-hand Omega or Tag on eBay, or you can even buy a low-end/entry level but very legit watch like a Seiko from Japan [where they have certain models with better movements and designs than the ones avail in North America] (http://www.seiyajapan.com/c=BEbWjuR28tPp6OHWVUVkP6YHg/product/S-SARB071…)
Or maybe a Tissot. Or a Stowa (German brand, but require a couple months to wait for shipment). Or an Archimede (http://www.archimede-watches.com) - many, many actual watchmakers to choose from that play in the "entry-level" field.
Yeah designer watch movements are on par with your average timex/citizen/seiko. It really depends on what your looking for, if you want that designer label I suppose its not a bad choice.
But if you are looking for a good, well made watch that will sound well with "watch people" I would look at a Stowa

Maybe a seiko spirit
^ Nice. I recently bought my first 'real' watch, and I only wear it on occasion. But I would love to replace my everyday 'beater' watch with a Stowa or a nice Seiko as well.
From what I hear - the Seiko Spirit is discontinued... but you can find very similar models on the seiyajapan site I posted above.
Not really my cup of tea, but I don't think they look bad. I would be hesitant to spend $500 or $600 on a 'designer' watch.
I bought a pretty sweet Victorinox (a.k.a. Swiss Army...no jokes, assholes) for about $375, on sale from about $900. Swiss movement (the same found in some rather high end watches), stainless steel case, sapphire crystal face.
I tried to look up some info on the ones you linked but couldn't find a manufacturer's model number or anything. Hopefully someone else has some additional knowledge.
Regards
Yeah, I wasn't too big on spending that much on a watch because I typically don't wear one, but thought I should just pick up the habit since it doesn't really hurt. Truth be told, it is probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. As so as I got it in the mail and put it on, I felt like it was worth every penny and then some. I wear the watch everyday and it looks as good as new and every time I wear it I feel like I made an outstanding purchase. Contrary to that, I just bought some new Ray Bans to replace a pair of $80 sunglasses that I've had for several years and I'm am not entirely satisfied with my purchase. They are nice sunglasses and seem to be of good quality but I've sort of regretted the purchase...which isn't the case with the watch. Granted part of the regret is that I think sunglasses are a huge rip off, especially when you consider that they are all made by the same company (practically)...so the $200 ones aren't any better than the $80 ones (save for polarized lenses or something like that).
Regards
Check out gilt.com they have sales on watches occasionally for designer labels
I'm not a watch connoisseur, either, but I would steer clear of the "designer" watches. Gucci, Burberry and other fashion houses who are not known for their watches make cheap crap that can be had for much less. Watch snobs will laugh at the cheap construction and the quartz movement.
A watch is one of those purchases that requires you to "go big or go home." Be willing to drop $1,500-ish on a watch of decent quality or cut yourself off at a $60 that does the job. Don't get caught with your pants down by buying a $500 piece.
I'm pretty sure Stowas are relatively inexpensive watches. My uncle purchased one a while back from under $100 on Newegg. I love the classic look of it, though, so if you're not down with spending thousands on a watch, go with something that has a similar look to the Stowas.
EDIT: Nevermind this comment, it definitely wasn't a Stowa, but it had a similar "classic" look to it.
Stowas range from ~EUR 500 to low 1000s.
I think there's a brand called Parnis that makes a lot of watches around $100 to 200+ that are essentially 'homages' (not sure what defines 'knockoffs' - but they don't pretend to be another brand because they use their own name) to iconic/recognizable watches like IWC Portuguese and a number of 'classic looking'... they look nice in pics, but never seen one in person, so can't attest their quality.
An IPhone. :D Welcome to my spartan life.
I love watches and really couldnt afford to buy an expensive one for a long time and I rocked a couple of designer watches ie. emporio armani. I think that if you do just make sure its a beautiful looking watch, and people will always compliment you on it even if it isnt a panerai. The watch you have listed is very sporty and assuming you work in banking I dont know if its that appropriate. Something more classic looking witha leather band will go with anything you wear. Pick a white or silver dial and a band that matches your shoes and you will get a lot of compliments in the office. If you want a watch you can wear everywhere pick a metal band, the Victorianox or Hamilton watches are good options, again pick a white or silver dial and it will go with navy and black.
Rock up with a Tissot. They're just under $200.
