Too jacked for most suits, HELP!(seriously)

I’m about 5’10, 170lbs, and fairly muscular. I’ve kept a regimented workout routine for the past 6 years and am having difficulty finding a suit that comfortable. My arms are too big and shoulder are too big to comfortably fit in a lot of suits and it’s so annoying and uncomfortable. Lowkey is painful sometimes if I move weird while wearing my suit jacket.

What are some suit types/brands that are good for very broad shoulders and thick arms.

Ideally I’d like one that fits alright off the rack. Any suggestions? I was thinking of Charles Tyrwhitt’s “ultimate performance” suit but tell me if I should go in another direction.

TLDR: I need a suit for broad shoulder and big arms.

I get it dude.

Im not super fit, but also not a fatass. I am a relatively buff guy and have very broad shoulders and back

Clothes have always been a challenge

You just gotta accept that nothing off the rack will fit you. I usually get my stuff tailored.

I get a larger jacket due to my shoulder and back, and then have the sleeves taken up, shoulders adjusted if too paddy and other alterations.

It’s the only way brother. We’re not a traditional fit unfortunately.

Boom: there’s your next business idea:

Buff Suits: custom suits for men and women who don’t fall into the traditional sizing options !

Let’s quit our IB jobs and pursue this venture. You with me ?

Bruh, 170 at 12% bf is way different than 170 at 25% bf (how the average male is). My waist is small, all my weight is in my arms and shoulders. Legs aren’t small by any measure either I can rep 405. Idk I guess I hold all my muscle in the right areas for bodybuilding but wrong areas for everyday office comfort lmao.

Brother, if 5’10, 170 lbs is ‘too jacked for suits,’ then I guess mannequins are out here struggling too. But for real, anything off the rack is gonna fight you like a cheap button-up after leg day. Just go made-to-measure, tailor the shoulders, and embrace that ‘finance guy who lifts’ struggle. If you start ‘Buff Suits LLC,’ let me know—I’ll be your first customer.

Most department store suits are made off of a body model who has a specific size (like size 40-42) and then gets scaled up or down based off of a variety of factors. For the majority of people regardless of body type, you shouldn't be buying off the rack if you can't fit these suits since the scaling isn't always perfect. Enzo Custom, Spier and Mackay, Boggi Milano, Luxire and even Proper Cloth all offer custom sizing within the $500-2000 range.

I have had pretty good luck with off the rack Brooks Brothers suits. If helpful, Im 6'1", 205 LB lean. I have found that their suits are generally larger in the arms and allow for a wider back, which is key. With that said, once you hit a certain physique, most clothes off the rack really wont fit that well.

Im surprised you didnt mention the neck being a common pain point. For me, this is where I have the most issues, as I cannot button the top button on 8/10 dress shirts.

Lastly, for more common advice, sizing up generally works pretty well. Sure the suit might be a bit big in some spots, but I have taken this approach several times and my wife swears it looks fine in the areas I identify as baggy.

205lbs 5'10. I have a suit off the rack that I had tailored and a MTM suit. They both fit well but the MTM pants are far better. Men's dress pants are not designed to accommodate large asses. Dress shirts are the biggest battle for me. having an 18-inch neck, larger chest/lats, and a 34 waist means few shirt manufacturers make stuff for me. Shirts are almost always tight around the shoulders and too loose around the abdomen. I got two custom dress shirts, and now I wish I had more. Try your luck with the rack but accept you will need to have stuff tailored.
