Tuxedo Recommendations

Looking for recommendations on a tuxedo - have a black tie wedding coming up in August and want to buy a reasonably nice tuxedo without breaking the bank. I’m not at the weight where I hope to be long term (thanks to a couple years of banking), so don’t want to go over the top with anything bespoke, but also don’t want to look like a dweeb in a cheap / poorly fitted tux. Any recommendations for made to measure / mid level options? In the NYC / Philly area preferably

For a black-tie wedding, here are some solid tuxedo recommendations based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Made-to-Measure Options:

    • Suitsupply: Known for their high-quality made-to-measure (MTM) suits and tuxedos. They offer a great balance of quality and price, and their NYC location makes it convenient for fittings. Their structured jackets and silk linings ensure a polished look.
    • Indochino: A more affordable MTM option. While their quality is slightly below Suitsupply, they still provide a decent fit and customization options. Tailoring adjustments may be needed post-purchase.
  2. Off-the-Rack (OTR) with Tailoring:

    • J.Crew: Their Ludlow tuxedo line is a popular choice for a classic, well-fitted look. Pair it with a good tailor to ensure it fits perfectly.
    • Bonobos: Offers modern, slim-fit tuxedos that are stylish and reasonably priced. Their customer service and return policies are also highly rated.
  3. Budget-Friendly Alternatives:

    • Men’s Wearhouse: While not the most luxurious, they have affordable options like Joseph Abboud tuxedos. With proper tailoring, you can achieve a sharp look without overspending.
  4. Shoes and Accessories:

    • Pair your tuxedo with Allen Edmonds Park Avenue black cap-toe oxfords for a timeless, high-quality shoe that will last for years.
    • Stick to a classic black bow tie and a white pocket square for a clean, traditional black-tie ensemble.

Since you're not at your long-term weight, MTM options like Suitsupply or Indochino allow for some flexibility in fit adjustments. Avoid going bespoke for now, as it’s a significant investment better suited for when your weight stabilizes.
