Vintage watches: the watch(s) that Gordon Gekko wore ?

Baume & Mercier are excellent timepieces. I wouldn't put them in the same category as a Rolex. In my opinion, a Rolex is in a niche category slightly below that of Patek, AP, VC, and Breguet.

Rolex timepieces are excellent, but I would agree with MTx_2012 that you should be careful when buying a used Rolex and have a certified watchmaker check it out. Remember also that Rolexes (like any high-end timepiece) are supposed to be maintained every five years or so and this requires a decent-sized investment (i.e., not just spending $10 to replace a battery) because you need to make sure the movements are all functioning properly. Just like a vintage car, a vintage Rolex needs to be properly maintained to keep its value and to ensure that it keeps time relatively accurately. Also, given that the Rolex you are looking at is a two-tone, there isn't much gold on the timepiece to get any residual value. Most of the value from a Rolex comes from the metals and gems that are on or in the timepiece and not the complicated movements that make other high-end timepieces expensive.
