Wear tie for SM interview?

This is for a relatively junior level role. I ask because I see very few investors wearing ties at conferences, investor days, management meetings, etc., so I am wondering if ties are just out of fashion in the public markets.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's advisable to wear a tie for an interview, regardless of the level of the role. Here are some key points:

  • No Potential Downside: Wearing a tie shows that you are taking the interview seriously. There is no downside to wearing one, but there could be a negative perception if you don't.
  • Professional Appearance: Even if ties seem out of fashion in certain settings, an interview is a formal occasion, and dressing professionally is crucial.
  • General Rule: If you have to ask whether it's acceptable or not, it's probably safer to wear a tie.

In summary, for a junior-level role interview, wearing a tie is recommended to ensure you present yourself as professional and serious about the opportunity.
