Glad someone posted this as I have been wondering myself. It is my understanding the ties by Hermes ( or any remotely wild) are not acceptable in finance; is this true?

Looks great! I think the 2.5" is definitely the right balance. How long a tie should be still has me confused though, maybe someone could write a guide about that.

I go to the the belt (waistline, essentially; end of tie touching the middle or top of belt). Some people prefer it a little shorter; some a little longer. At the belt is a pretty solid metric for tie length. I wouldn't venture too far outside of that. As long as you don't wear your pants like a gang member or a grandpa this metric should work just fine.
