2013 Hedge Fund Compensation Report

Just got an e-mail this morning from Hedge Fund Job Digest about this. Not sure how many people they survey for it, but I figure any information like this is always handy. They only provide highlights on the website (and I'm not going to shell out $400 bucks for the whole report), but here are some of the interesting stats they do provide:

- Average compensation for hedge fund professionals up slightly from 2011 to $314,000 / year.

- Average expected bonuses compared to 2011 were up $38,000, or 31%.

- Most respondents reported working between 50 and 70 hours a week.

- "Mean compensation hardly varied at mid-tier to large funds, whether one worked for a smaller fund with just $100 million to $500 million under management or a large fund with more than $1 billion."

So, sounds like hedge funds are still doing fairly well despite, or perhaps thanks to, this year's crazy ups and downs. I doubt this info will persuade (or dissuade) people from pursuing a career in hedge funds more so than they already are (or aren't), but it's good to know how to compare your current career aspects to different fields.
