Anyone work at or have thoughts on Quant Funds' Fundamental Equities divisions, especially recent launches?
I've noticed a fair amount of good quant funds launching fundamental L/S strategies on top of their books in the last few years (Two Sigma, CFM, Squarepoint, etc. etc. the list goes on except maybe Jane Street). The reasons seem kind of obvious as they are running out of capacity and even at a lower sharpe, the L/S book being uncorrelated to quant and/or macro book is beneficial to deploying more capital.
Several of these have been so new for a while that nobody really knew much about them. There are exceptions like D.E. Shaw and some others but just curious if anyone here has or is working at one and what their experiences are like? Do you think you are treated well? You have a future? Do you get to actually leverage any of the back-end developers from the quant book? Etc.? You don't have to list firm name if you don't want to. I am interested from a potential employment perspective.
I interviewed at squarepoint, tiny team mostly SS ER and took undergrads. Seems like a typical Fundamental L/S situation with longer holding periods then pods although still calling the quarter type work. Lots of alt data etc.
Lol bus dev told me a good candidate should have years of l/s experience. Otherwise chances are slim
