Applying to pod shops
If I'm applying for junior analyst positions at the large MMs, is it ok to apply directly on the website or is it better to go through a headhunter? Thank you in advance

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights:
Direct Application: Applying directly on the website can be effective, especially for large funds that do look at online applications. This method allows you to target specific positions at firms you are interested in.
Headhunters: Headhunters can be beneficial, particularly for more specialized roles or when you need an introduction. They often have mandates from firms and can help you get noticed. However, they might not always have entry-level positions available, as firms typically use them for more experienced hires.
Networking: Reaching out directly to someone at the firm, such as through a cold email, can also be a powerful strategy. This approach can demonstrate your interest and initiative, potentially leading to interviews.
In summary, using a combination of direct applications, headhunters, and networking can maximize your chances of landing a junior analyst position at large MMs.

Under the first option the fund can hire you at no upfront cost. Under the latter, it will have to pay a $50-100k fee to a 3rd party. What do you think.
Is it really such a high fee for a single junior hire? I thought that was only for PM hires. Sorry if this is a well-known thing. I had no idea.
Normal HH fee is like XX% (>10%) of first year salary. Not sure if bonus is included tbf, and not sure how they'd measure that. If some sort of "normalised" bonus is included then that range isn't unreasonable.
For you, really no difference if you’ve got a solid background

Why on earth are you interested in a subscaled platform lmao
