Baupost Group & Equivalent
Assume I’m going to inherit enough money when I go back to my home country and im only doing this for the love of the game for the next 10-15 yeas. I could be paid 10/hr and I would still work at Baupost (TLDR- I don’t want to work at pod)
At a top rx shop (think PJT/EVR) and really love what Baupost (and David Abrams, etc.) does in terms of looking for opportunities across asset classes and analysts not being siloed but really just looking for any kind of opportunities.
Not too keen on Boston and (more relevant) Baupost is close to impossible to get a seat at so what other firms exist that invest in the same style as Baupost (mandateless to a certain extent)?
Please don’t waste your time saying Baupost returns have been subpar and value investing firms are shutting down on the daily, I’m aware of all of it.
their mandate is to underperform the market while being annoying about it because they are investing the "right way". why would you be "interested" in that instead of going to a pod and making money generating alpha dollars?
Tickle my pickle, let’s imagine you actually read what I wrote in this post and I don’t want to jerk off at a pod at the prospect of one of my 50 names beating earnings in the next Q and I just want the answer to the fucking question
its 1900. "How do i join the horse and buggy factory. I am not interested in cars."
"go work in autos"
"didnt i tell you i prefer buggies to cars?"
God forbid bro just wanted to ride horses
Redwood is the obvious fund that comes to mind. Typically takes 2+2s from top Rx + value special sits / PE.
Word on the Street is that Baupost is returning to glory. They may even reach mid single digit returns this year!
I'll give you a real answer - any serious, scale credit investor (way too many to list out here and most are growing AUM) will have the most important elements of the value investing style you're interested in. Think less about cross-cap structure & more about the general situations that interest you with this investing style and you'll find that much of op'ty set in some credit roles fits that (e.g., contrarian, value, event-driven)
