Best strategy to recruit for quant post-college?
Profile: 4 years of work experience, 2 at a BB AM doing quant risk + analytics and 2 doing credit risk analytics at one of those 'startups that employees leave FAANG for'. Technical STEM masters and finance background.
Background. I'm relatively content with my current employment status as I would not only be making more at each level in my current role vs. my first job, promotions are much more consistent, benefits are better, WLB is great. Problem is that I'm a lot more bored than I thought with most high-profile projects relating more to visibility (the process goes like build/experiment something relatively novel and then make a dashboard to monitor it) rather than something that would be technically challenging. I also find myself genuinely more interested in markets. I would like to work at a HF given these factors (perhaps it's just my fascination), and do my best to avoid a larger firm / a different BB since I feel like my current perks still outweigh those opportunties.
That being said, I'm looking for advice to see if anybody has any guidance on how to navigate my situation: I'm planning to try to recruit for hedge funds for a quant-related position, hopefully at a MM platform but also open to other areas. When I worked at the BB, I was periodically contacted for similar opportunities by headhunters but that time has long since past ever since I joined the tech industry. I have means to index postings from Google, LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor to identify any funds that do list openings, though I'm sure my application gets sent to trash LOL so I feel like I"m getting little traction there. Do you guys think it's worth emailing to generic addresses on the website vs. the executive assistant/reception vs alumni vs COO, applying online directly if available, or going through headhunters (my personal experience is that they aren't too fantastic)? What is the best strategy here to get recognized?
