Can you run a hedge fund for 30 years with 1 person only?

Basically a hedge fund is just like a regular Joe's $500 stock trading account but instead of managing $500, you are managing $1,000,000,000.00+

However, the basic concept is still the same (You just click buy/sell on a keyboard/mouse.)

So the question is, can you run a billion dollar hedge fund with 1 man?

Define "run". They have to hire/outsource for most if not all of the back & mid-office stuff, but if you're talking about IP/AUM then yes it's definitely possible depending on the strategy. There are a number of funds today that run with an AUM >$1b/IP.

What would be the point of that? If you're managing $500m AUM, what is the point of not hiring a COO, a compliance person, a trader?

Even if you outsource all of that, you will still need to dedicate substantial time to running the admin side of the business.

Aiming to manage $bns but looking to save $100ks in salaries sounds to me like seriously misunderstanding whay the priorities are.
