DE Shaw Fundamental Research Analyst Summer Intern
Hi, I have a call for the D.E. Shaw Fundamental Research Intern position.
I was wondering what I should expect.
I know DE Shaw is known to be quantitative, but how technical can this interview be? I’m comfortable with finance topics, just not Highly technical/math concepts.
Just wanted to know if anyone has any tips, advice, or knowledge about this position / interview.
Thank you!
Hi roadtohardo, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...
Hope that helps.
The interview is oriented towards your background (major in school, past work experience), but they do throw in some technical brainteaser questions (which is no surprise given their quantitative bent).
Thank you.
While I am alright with finance/accounting, I get confused on preparing for those brainteasers... do you think there is any way to prepare or is it best to just go in and guide them through our thought process.
Also, Do you know how much of the technical portion is oriented towards finance/accounting vs. brainteasers (I know they favor non-finance backgrounds, but I am a finance major, also given that I am interviewing for "Fundamental" research..)
Probably some finance questions given your major.
For a brainteaser, here is a practice question to give you a feel (not a real interview question to my knowledge, but of a similar class of problems):
You flip a coin 10 times, and count the number of times it lands up as heads (call this H). Then, you proceed to flip the coin H more times, and repeat the procedure. What is the expected number of flips you will do?
is the answer 20? including the preliminary 10 flips
