Equity L/S question
Hi folks! I recently moved into a new seat (pod) - fundamental equity L/s and my PM uses python for some of his analysis. My background has been in fundamental equities (5+ years) but I am quite keen on learning python. Although I haven’t used it before. I do not have a computer science background so have not done any coding before. What are some good resources to start off from scratch? I am considering data camp, but very open to other suggestions. Thanks!
Had to use Python for a couple internships with little/no prior background. Haven’t tried Datacamp but below is what worked for me:
Corey Schafer makes some of the most intuitive/easy to understand Python videos on Youtube in my opinion. I would recommend watching most of his beginner Python playlist and coding along. I found at least the first 9 videos, variable scope, datetime, and common mistakes videos to be helpful. He has a separate OOP series which is good and nice to know, but may not be needed depending on your use case.
For working with data, your PM likely uses the Python library pandas. Same guy made an 11 video series on pandas which I cranked out in 1-2 days, coding along in a Jupyter notebook, and now I prefer it to Excel.
