Based on the most helpful WSO content, first impressions at work are formed very quickly and can have a lasting impact. While it’s important to consistently perform well over time, the initial weeks or even days are critical. Here are some key takeaways:
Immediate Impact: First impressions are often solidified within the first few weeks. For example, one WSO thread emphasizes that struggling early on can lead to a lingering perception of being a non-performer, even if you improve later.
Short-Term Sacrifice for Long-Term Gain: Doing everything possible to "crush it" in the beginning is crucial. This means being punctual, delivering high-quality work, and demonstrating enthusiasm and professionalism.
Consistency Over Time: While the initial impression is formed quickly, maintaining and reinforcing that impression over the first 3-6 months is essential to solidify your reputation.
In summary, the first few weeks are critical for setting the tone, but consistently strong performance over the first 3-6 months will help cement a positive impression.

First impressions aren’t a thing in the same way they are in other career paths. You’re only as good (and seen by seniors) as your last win and/or streak which in turn is mitigated downwards/upwards by your calls % and how long you were able to perform well.
This. If you make money your PM will love you. If you lose money, even for a bit, you will feel the heat. It doesn't matter what happened 2-3 years ago or even last year. But long term consistent performers get more leeway.
