Fordham to HF

Currently a freshman at Fordham University (Gabelli) studying finance. From previous threads, it seems clear to me that Fordham doesnt place that well into IB roles (a few BBs usually but not much). However it seems like the schools reputation is improving and every cohort is doing better and better. Does anyone have insight on how hard it would be to go to a school like Fordham and exit with a HF job (or even Private Equity)? Thanks a lot!

Agree with above, need to do IB first. PE is easier out of college to land than HF, but there are some real downsides of starting at a small PE firm (limited exits, questionable training) and it's usually better to go BB -> PE.

Fordham places well at BBs if you work for it. The advantage is being in the city - you can network more easily and you should have multiple internships during the semester.

Hey there! It's great to see you're thinking ahead about your career path. While the context doesn't provide specific information about Fordham's placement into Hedge Funds (HF) or Private Equity (PE), it does mention that a user recently got into Fordham Gabelli for undergrad and was inquiring about its placement.

However, I can tell you that regardless of the school, breaking into HF or PE directly from undergrad can be challenging, as these firms typically prefer to hire candidates with a few years of experience, often in investment banking.

That said, it's not impossible! Here are a few steps you can take:

  1. Excel academically: Maintain a high GPA and take relevant courses. This will help you stand out in the competitive finance field.

  2. Network: Connect with alumni or professionals in the industry. Networking can often lead to opportunities that aren't publicly advertised.

  3. Gain relevant experience: Internships in related fields can provide valuable experience and connections. They also demonstrate your interest and commitment to these industries.

  4. Prepare for interviews: WSO has resources like the IB Interview Course and the Private Equity Interview Course that can help you ace those tough questions.

Remember, your school is just one factor. Your skills, experiences, and determination also play a crucial role in landing a job in HF or PE. Keep up the hard work and don't get discouraged!

I bet you rn you can’t even do a LBO stop trying to get into PE and HF when you aren’t even in IB

And to add on a quick search on LinkedIn tells you about PE placements from fordham which are pretty bad

If you think your school does poorly with banks, what makes you think it would be easier with HFs? The (or even Private Equity) made me laugh, the traditional path is IB to MFPE to HF, far harder to get a good SM HF seat than one in PE.

Talk to your upper year students, join the investment/finance club, learn more about what these various jobs entail.
