Fundraisers vs. Traders

I just have a genuine question regarding the internal players at hedge funds. Are most of the investment teams traders or do they have some people whose main focus is on drumming up business and helping to raise funds while doing minimum trading so that the rest can solely trade? I feel like it would be a smart structure I just didn't know if many shops already operated this way.

Do the rainmakers at these shops that can consistently bring in large amounts of money on the front end from clients get a larger slice of the management fee? I know funds largely base compensation on performance so it makes sense for that person to pull in bank.

I definitely do have a lot to learn so I appreciate your input. I never really though of working at one out of undergrad until recently. What the average payout for a 1-2 year analyst at a NYC fund with 10-15B AUM? I only asked the original question because I believe I could do well in a role both trading and selling the firm during a capital raise.

Thanks for the salary input. I have already signed my internship offer for a Tiger cub L/S fund this summer. I just wanted to see what numbers are floating around for that position so Im informed come the end of the summer in case they offer me for FT. You got any tips on how to secure the gig?
