Hedge Fund from undergrad?
Ignore title (old account). Interned at a MF manager in credit this last summer and have a unique opportunity to join a 3 year old spec sits shop (~$3B AUM), mid-high teens YoY returns.
Wanted to get thoughts on considerations of joining such a fund out of undergrad.
For reference, the team (at the spec sits fund) has been super nice & seem to be willing to mentor. Comp is comparable / slightly higher at the HF.
Joining a hedge fund, especially a specialized situations shop with ~$3B AUM and strong mid-high teens YoY returns, straight out of undergrad is a unique and promising opportunity. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key considerations to weigh:
1. Mentorship and Team Dynamics
2. Fund Performance and Stability
3. AUM and Growth Potential
4. Compensation
5. Exit Opportunities
6. Learning Opportunities
7. Long-Term Fit
8. Reputation and Network
Final Thoughts
If the mentorship, learning opportunities, and fund performance align with your career goals, this could be an excellent opportunity to start your career in hedge funds. However, ensure you do thorough due diligence on the fund's strategy, stability, and long-term prospects before making a decision.
