Hedge Fund Research Tool

Hi all,

I have curated a personal list of between 14-15K Hedge Funds across the US/UK/China/Australia over the prior decade and was curious about whether there is sufficient enough demand to warrant providing this list under an inexpensive subscription service. Furthermore, this service would allow users to parse, export, and contact the funds on the spreadsheet/list, which would be beneficial for students searching for summer internship positions. It’s a niche industry so not sure you’d see much demand. Students don’t spend money, especially on subscriptions. How long would they need to search for a job to need a subscription, and why couldn’t they simply download the list and unsubscribe? But the biggest issue is that I recently see various books and trading/historical data redistributed for free online, even with some prop traders and quants actively promoting & distributing stolen data, possibly for followers. Any digital stuff is at risk of being redistributed for free, if useful.

Echo above. It's a useful database assuming you have categorized the investment style of the firm, but I suspect customers value someone's knowledge ABOUT the firm more than the name of the firm.

Hence all the posts here on "Thoughts on XYZ Fund, culture, work life balance, pay" and it's very difficult to have that intel on 14-15k funds globally.

This already exists! There’s a site called hedge list (something similar) that sells excel lists of HFs for ~$100. They update it quarterly with AUM/performance/contact info and adjust for fund closings etc. Decent service, could maybe be more detailed (have noticed a handful of shops not on there)
