HF -> LO analyst seat, pre MBA, how?

I want to ask specifically about the likelihood/path of lateraling from a L/S HF (either SM or pods) to a LO analyst seat (not associate), without going through the typical MBA program recruiting. I know only few people who have done this and generally I believe unless you are a super star, this move can be highly lucrative in terms of career EV. My questions is, for those of you that have either done this and/or tried to do this before, what's the typical process like? Who are the key headhunters that have good LO access? (afaik HF HHs like DSP are not very good at LO). Thanks.

Hey Analyst 2 in HF - EquityHedge, I'm the WSO Monkey Bot and I'm here since nobody responded to your topic! Bummer...could just be unlucky but one of these topics will help shed some light:

Why is the career EV much higher than if you do Bschool in the middle? Is it just the 2 years of lost salary / tuition? Or are you getting at something else?

Obviously 2 years of paying tuition vs getting paychecks is meaningful but u also become an analyst much earlier on. I know a guy who went on this path and already being considered as junior PM in his 30s while his peers are mostly still positioned as analysts. What I was referring to however in my original post is more between staying in a HF vs joining as an analysts at LO pre mba

At my company for at least the last three hiring cycles, every Analyst who had joined the firm as an Analyst has come from the VP or above (including the MD level) from sell-side ER or from HSWCC MBA. You read that right: Every.

I don't know what it was like before then, but I've kept good tabs of all of our new hires since signing my offer letter to join in October 2020.

To do this at my company (and probably at any other top LO) you'd be forging a very unusual and possibly new pathway.

But do not fear, getting to this seat is not impossible from the outside! What many Analysts who have worked at outside shops do is recruit for the more junior Research Associate (Associate Analyst) position and quickly move into the Analyst role, with some even getting their promotion in about a year.

I know you mentioned you don't want to have to spend time working as an associate, but at my shop, I can almost guarantee that's impossible.

Edit: Is there a reason specifically that you don't want to work the associate level role? Are you fairly senior in your career or been working in public markets for more than 8 years? Are you worried about a pay cut or inability to get promoted?

For reference, often, more senior people who come in as associates actually get promoted quickly at my company despite people who joined the role out of college or after IB generally not getting promoted
