HF Modelling Tests / Case Studies

Trying to practice for some HF model tests (e.g. 3/4 hour case in person) for SMs and MMs

Wanted to fresh up on my modelling skills and was wondering if anyone had any good resources available (asides from just modelling companies). Willing to pay for tests/resources.

Thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some recommendations for preparing for hedge fund (HF) modeling tests and case studies:

  1. WSO Free Modeling Series: This series offers 9 free financial modeling lessons taught by experienced private equity professionals and bulge bracket investment bankers. It includes training on financial statement modeling, DCF, M&A, LBO, Comps, and Excel modeling. Additionally, you get access to 27 financial modeling templates in a swipe file.

  2. WSO Elite Modeling Package: This package provides comprehensive financial modeling resources tailored for investment banking, private equity, and hedge fund roles. It’s a solid option if you’re looking for structured learning.

  3. Breaking Into Wall Street (BIWS): This is a popular choice for financial modeling courses. It’s known for its detailed and practical approach, which can help you build the skills needed for HF modeling tests.

  4. Wall Street Prep and Training the Street: Both are well-regarded for their financial modeling courses. They cover a range of topics, including LBOs, DCFs, and other fundamental models that are often tested in HF case studies.

  5. Practice with Templates: Utilize the financial modeling templates available on WSO. These templates can help you practice building models from scratch and refine your skills.

  6. Focus on Fundamentals: For HF modeling tests, ensure you’re comfortable with:

    • Building 3-statement models.
    • Performing DCF and LBO analyses.
    • Understanding and applying key Excel formulas.
    • Creating EBITDA bridges and cap tables.

If you’re short on time, prioritize resources that offer concise and focused training, such as the WSO Free Modeling Series or BIWS. These can help you get up to speed quickly while covering the essentials for HF modeling tests.
