That kind of transition will likely be the hardest thing you've ever accomplished. I will briefly post a few avenues but most will probably be herculean tasks (I'm assuming you are low level WM front office, but not broker)

  1. Pursue more and more portfolio management related roles until you are managing some group of broker's portfolios -> AM shop as analyst/PM -> HF timeframe = years. a. study CFA to add a multiplier for probability of this working out.

  2. Pursue sales desks type of roles -> try to be an internal for AI desk -> transition to sales role at HF/HFoF

  3. Grind out a few years ->MBA -> IB Associate -> HF

  4. Keep lateraling roles at your bank until you are directly involved w/ capital markets/research. Do your time and get scooped up/network your way into HF.

The level of dedication required to pursue any of these and win is huge, and you should be prepared to suffer for some time as you put a plan in motion and execute.
