How is Family Office experience viewed in the Hedge Fund world?

I’m in discussion with a large family office at the moment. Position is for a senior analyst role working directly with a PM. While it sounds like I’ll have some input into the portfolio management side on decisions and risk, there isn’t much, if any, direct investment in public equities. Mostly allocating to fund managers.

The hours, compensation, and life style seem like a nice trade from where I’m at. But it sounds like it isn’t uncommon for analysts to finish 2-3 years and move elsewhere if they aren’t interested in the move to PM here.

In addition to having sell side experience would this still leave me with an uphill battle if I decide it’s not for me?
