How tf do you actually recruit for HFs

is it mostly through their webpages, headhunters, reaching their biz dev, or LinkedIn postings? there's barely any postings, not sure if I should cold email or just wait for hh to message me

Wondering if anyones getting traction with interviews right now, ie stages they've reached. would this be the best few months to recruit vs later in the year since post bonus season?

Funniest

I do my best to help out on this site, I take out a lot of time to write up detailed answers.

But I don't think I can help out on this one; God bless you if you can't even figure this part out.

Ugh feels like a slow process vs just applying online. I guess I’m just weirded out since ibd and er seems to just be fine with job apps

Headhunters are useful for getting intros, but most of their mandates are for pods, and they're not that reliable. Don't think that they're "for you" - they don't care about you

Most funds as you know don't post openings online and hire by word of mouth and within their network, so it's a completely different process than coming out of school into IB, etc. It's a black box

Try reaching out to BD and see if they're hiring

I’m a PM headhunter working on a retained mandate with two pods plus a top macro shop and can confirm we’re great for intros provided the track and background is strong. Also true that BD teams leverage their network and often reach out to the top performers they hear about across the street.

Sometimes it can be as easy as reaching out and hoping they see the email amongst the hundreds they receive daily, but can be difficult to gain traction unless you’re standout.

Thank you, actually some helpful advice than the other commenters lol. Was weirded out by how this works since headhunters pretty much pass my resume in and it’s all crickets for me. Not sure if I’m just a bad candidate/they’re not reliable/competitive market
