How to Develop Long-Only Skills after SS ER stint?

About ~6months in my role and I'm curious what are some skills or traits you or others you know of developed while on the sell side? On top of keeping track of the sector I'm already in I'm expanding my knowledge in other sectors within the same overall space on my own time (building models, writing a semi-decent initiation...). For those who basically were covering more than 1 sector at a time as an associate, how did you retain all the info? My brain feels like mush covering 10+ stocks which I feel isn't a sign of a successful buy-side analyst.
