How to explain leaving a fund
In hedge fund interviews, how do you explain why you left the prior hedge fund?
I feel like both answers (quit and terminated) can be the wrong answer. Quit - not resilient, not loyal, not passionate even if you say comp wasn’t good or bad culture. Terminated - poor performance or poor fit or done something unethical
What’s the best way to frame departure?
When explaining your departure from a hedge fund during interviews, the key is to frame your answer positively and professionally while avoiding unnecessary details that could raise red flags. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some strategies:

Focus on Growth and Alignment:
Avoid Blaming or Criticizing:
Spin Termination Positively (if applicable):
Be Prepared for Follow-ups:
Tailor Your Story to the Audience:
Remember, the goal is to convey that you’re focused on the future and excited about the opportunity at hand, rather than dwelling on the past.
