IB -> Quant HF. Career Advice Needed!

Guys, to provide a bit of bg, so I am currently an investment banking analyst at a BB. I have an engineering undergrad, so I have fairly decent knowledge of coding, statistics and prob.

However, by stroke of fate I landed in IB even though I do have deep interest in Quant. My goal is to eventually work in a HF and see where my career goes after that. However, given I have started my career in IB, is it futile to think about a Quant driven hedge fund or is there a chance my skills can be considered for me to be given a chance for the role?

Any suggestion / advice will be hugely appreciated. Understand this might not be the most common route, but what are some alternative roadmaps to HFs that I can consider?

Currently work in EMEA btw!

Thanks!
