Interning at HF as a SWE, path to IB?

I'm a junior in college and this summer I'll be interning at a large hedge fund as a software engineer. This is my first time doing a SWE internship, so if I don't like it is there a path from SWE to IB during fall new grad recruiting? I have no IB experience but I have interned at a small VC firm for the past 2 years. I'm also at a semi-target with a 3.7 GPA majoring in Econ and Computer Science if that helps. Should I start networking now or can I wait until I'm in the internship to know if I like programming or not?

It’s very hard to switch from SWE to IB because they are very different types of jobs and require completely different personalities. Plus there’s zero overlap of skillset, and all the TMT groups are shrinking due to upcoming recession

Your chance is way better if you try for a quant-like role. Quants are now considered front-office and they have similar earning prospect as IB if not more. Especially quants in buyside.

Thanks for the input. I did recruit for quant internship roles but I could not pass any of the online math and probability screens. I'm honestly not sure if I'm math savvy enough, at least for the top firms (Jane Street, HRT, etc), that's why I was interested in IB
