Interview and General Advice?
Hi All,
I’ve been working as a trading analyst for three years and have gotten a look from a hedge fund. The role is for a jr position on a commodities desk, which aligns with my experience. Unfortunately, I haven’t found much information about the firm but they have around 40 employees across several offices and manage ~$600M in AUM. My first interview is coming up, and it will be about 30 minutes with the COO and CIO of the fund. If that goes well, the next step will be a meeting with the trader/PM I would be working with as their junior. I’d really appreciate any thoughts or advice on how to approach this. Since there’s limited information available online, I’m unsure about their performance, but they seem legitimate/been around a little while, and the compensation they’re offering is quite attractive (although not sure this means they're a good/reliable fund to work for?).
Some additional questions I have:
- What kinds of questions should I expect from the COO and CIO in this initial interview?
- How can I present myself as a strong candidate for a smaller firm like this? The recruiter mentioned this would be his first junior placement at the fund.
- Are there specific questions I should ask them, given the limited public information available?
- Should I be concerned about the firm’s size or its low online visibility?
- If I make it to the next round, what’s the best way to approach the conversation with the trader or portfolio manager?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
