Is sell side fundamental macro research worth it?

It seems that the majority of the reports focus on binary outcome: SP500 going up or down. Obviously, this is crucial since 40%+ of stock price movements are related to macro, but sometimes it feels like a coin toss, and If I am weighing the research costs, the benefit cost analysis becomes less attractive. If I am looking for macro trade ideas, like buy the yen, short the vix, by CDs, ETF correlation trades, volatility option trades, dispersion trading, etc. would quant research have more of these ideas and be more useful? Any recommendations thanks.
