Is there a way to work for a HF straight out of undergrad in non quant roles?
Hey everyone! For some more context, I landed an internship offer at a BB for summer 2026. I was just curious if there is still a way to contact HFs for full-time roles in non-quant roles.
I know that a lot of hedge funds recruit early and some even expect return offers from prior internships, but I'm really interested in exploring opportunities in the HF space post-graduation. Would it make sense to start reaching out to funds now, or is it better to wait until closer to the end of my internship next summer? Should I also reach out to headhunters or recruiters? Also, if anyone has advice on how to best position myself or what kind of experience these firms typically look for, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
Most big MM funds have grad programs. Apply to them
I’m a rising senior. When do these apps open up? I want to apply
your sophomore year for the intern programs… full-time programs should be interviewing rn or very soon
There’s a handful of full time hf and equity analyst rolls at hfs out rn. I have the same idea lowkey.
start contacting pms as soon as possible, there are lots of unstructured opps too
Hey, appreciate the comment! Had a few questions. What do you mean unstructured opps? Like do they have an informal recruiting process? Should i ask for an internship or like a semester long co op, or just any opportunity to get involved (executive assistant, chief of staff, etc.)? Also do you know how I should find pm's to target? SM or MM? Any insight helps, thanks so much!!! Just tryna get my foot in the door lol
There’s no structure or rules bro, that’s what unstructured means. Make your own way instead of looking for yet another application process to enter
Agree with brensonpunks here, you are out on your own here. Just find PMs/ Senior Analysts (in case of SMs) from your alumni network, pitch them, impress them, show great interest, and tell them you would really like to work with them for the summer/winter/or a certain period. If your good, most of them won't say no
DE Shaw, Point72, Bridgewater, etc. all have programs. But usually it is more common in non equity L/S strategies.
