Law-school - Corporate law @ HF/IB

Current freshman undergrad highly considering law school, Originally came to school majoring in finance wanting to pursue Investment Banking however after taking a class on corporate law I see myself working in High Finance on the legal side. Should I drop finance and switch to polisci/econ the curriculum is much easier and I truly dont see myself maintaining an extremely high gpa for law admissions if I stick with finance. Any advice appreciated.

Went through the same line of thought myself before deciding against law school. A few notes to consider:

- Absolutely do not change your major to political science, especially if you’re at a school that isn’t Harvard or Stanford. In the event that you bomb the LSAT or don’t get into a good school, you’ll want a degree that can actually get you a job.

- I similarly loved my business law class, but it’s not a great representation of a legal career. I would get an internship down the line that allows you to work alongside lawyers on deals before making a call on if it’s for you or not.

- You’ll need to go to a top notch school, and most of those schools prefer applicants with work experience before law school. Another great reason to not change your major to political science.
- This may not be a problem when you apply for law school, but one of the big issues right now in admissions is that there are way too many qualified applicants and not enough suitable jobs. Have a few friends that were admitted in the last cycle to top schools and some were asked to consider deferring because of over admission problems.

I should have mentioned that I am currently doing a double major in Finance and Political Science, Political science only adds an extra class a semester and most class count as my electives. I will be taking a summer course at LSE in corporate law so i'm hoping that sort of helps me decide. Honestly though Ill probably just stick with finance and if my grades aren't in the law school range (3.8-4.0) consider b-school down the line maybe.
