Macro Funds Cold Outreach

Hey all, I'm currently a Master's in Finance student at LBS hoping to break into a hedge fund. My main priority rn is applying to internships/grad programs at commodity shops, banks, and market makers as that is the more straightforward route, but ideally I would like to get an analyst/research seat at a global macro fund.

My current approach is to find smaller funds through WhaleWisdom and finding PMs to contact. However, I am trying to figure out how to structure an email. Naturally, I wouldn't ask for a job straight up and then come across as too transactional; I was instead thinking about making a 1-2 page research note based on a trade idea or thesis to send in. Just want to get a sanity check on this entire process.
