Managing book while on vacation
New PM here, how do you guys manage your books while on vacation?
De-risk beforehand and relax? Log in daily to check pnl? Leave it in your analysts' hands? Or do you just not take any holiday?
I spoke to a tenured PM who said he has his IT guy get him set up at his hotel whenever he goes on vacation and that he hasn't had a real vacation since he became a PM.
He's in a pretty volatile sector though, so maybe that makes a difference.
Mileage truly varies: different personality types, different asset classes, different strategies, different fund cultures, different team structures, and different personal preferences all impact what makes the most sense.
