MM m&a vs. Quant Research ops position at Top HF

I currently work at a middle market investment bank as a first year analyst doing m&a and received an offer from a top HF doing quantitative research in the operations department. I was wondering what the thoughts are of staying in m&a vs. quant ops at a top hf? Also what is the career progression and salary details for quant analysts?

salaries are very high for quant analysts. career progression is also good, but you'll likely find yourself specializing in something very soon. being an expert in one area or product gets you a lot more money than being average in everything.
