Moving from LO to L/S and terrified

Hey all,
I am going from a mid tier long only firm to a  top level L/S shop. To be honest, I’m terrified? Any color or advice transition to L/S would be appreciated. I definitely trust my talent, but I am worried about managing the work and stress. I had similar thoughts when joining my first job at a BB in ER and persevered fine. By joining a L/S is your life effectively over? What happens next if it is too much? Where do people who flunk out of L/S go?

Controversial

“By joining a L/S is your life effectively over” there’s tons of PMs and analysts who love markets and think about ideas/follow markets 24/7 on weekends, on their own free time, etc and love this stuff. If you don’t you’ll prob get eaten alive I can’t lie. My advice is to take this head on and build up some confidence. These types of posts and talking to typical 2+2 people who realize they can join a hedge fund after their PE stint and rlly don’t love markets goes to show there are too many people in this industry.

What do you mean take this head on and build some confidence? By nature of getting an offer I’m fully aware of my ability. I never question that. LO is just different. Part of it is just not having the skin in the game at my current gig. Do you work at a a L/S? How’d you get there?

Agree with this. Also all these firms are different so get a feel for culture
