PM likes me but?

Hi, I got along well with a PM at a platform, he said he would like me to join he team, butis there a chance I won’t get the greenlight by bizdev? Had the bizdev call a few weeks ago but flubbed a few answers and haven’t heard back

Based on the most helpful WSO content, even if a PM likes you and wants you on their team, the business development (bizdev) team often has significant influence in the hiring process. Their role is to ensure that candidates meet the platform's broader strategic and operational requirements. If you flubbed a few answers during the bizdev call, it could potentially impact your chances, as they might view it as a red flag.

However, not hearing back yet doesn’t necessarily mean rejection. Delays can happen for various reasons, such as internal discussions, other candidates being evaluated, or simple administrative holdups. If you’re concerned, consider following up with the PM or HR in a professional and polite manner to express your continued interest and inquire about the status of your application.

ignore my title but i dont agree. i had a few times when i answered everything very well (nothing technical at all just literally BD asking me sector preferences) but BD ghosted me a few times. had no clue why but it sucks that we let some U of miami psych grads to run first rounds for hf interviews which is crazy

Can you provide some insight into what these bizdev meetings are like? What kind of questions are they asking and what is the process like. I recently read an article about how important these people are to MMHF industry now. I wonder what are they doing in the gate keeping process that makes them so valuable. To me they seem like the old scouts in the movie Moneyball talking about players using heuristics like height and jawline. Are they actually using quantitative metrics in the hiring process?

They usually just ask you questions about your interest/focus, location preferences, and other boilerplate logistical stuff to see what desks you can fit for. Not that deep. Outcomes can be super random. Depends on the firm. They're not doing anything special tho

I found it a bit strange too, and I haven’t been able to get any additional insight from my network. For context, I was referred directly to this PM, so I didn’t go through the initial BD screening process. I just wanted to clarify if this BD screen more of a formality, or could it potentially have a negative impact?
