Point72 Experienced Professional - UK - What do they even look for?

Hey,

I am actually a doctor (MD) in the UK with interest in public markets so naturally when P72’s experienced professional programme for 2025 UK popped you applied to it.

My commercial background/ investment background is rather scarce I cannot lie. My biggest commercial experience is being the Chief Of Staff of a fast growing med-tech startup and leading a lot of the clinical regulatory stuff there.

However, I’m not even sure what P72 Experienced professional programme even looks for or when their dates open up.

My Questions: 1) Do you think I even stand a shot? 2) What do they even look for? 3) I applied yesterday, what dates do they even open on? 4) What is the general consensus on how competitive these sort of programmes are?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

1) Do you stand a shot?
While your background as a doctor (MD) and Chief of Staff at a med-tech startup is unconventional, Point72's Experienced Professional Program does value diverse experiences, especially if you can demonstrate strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and a passion for public markets. Your leadership experience and exposure to regulatory and clinical processes could be leveraged as transferable skills. However, the lack of direct investment or commercial experience might be a hurdle, so you’ll need to clearly articulate how your unique background aligns with the program's goals.

2) What do they look for?
The program typically seeks candidates with: - Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. - A demonstrated interest in investing and public markets. - Relevant professional experience, often in fields like management consulting, investment banking, or other analytical roles. - The ability to synthesize research into actionable investment ideas. - A willingness to learn and adapt, as the program includes intensive training in areas like fundamental research, data science, and portfolio management.

3) When do their dates open?
Unfortunately, the exact application dates for the UK program in 2025 are not specified in the knowledge base. Since you’ve already applied, it’s best to monitor your email for updates or reach out to their recruitment team for clarity on timelines.

4) How competitive are these programs?
These programs are highly competitive. Based on WSO threads, Point72's programs often attract candidates with strong academic and professional credentials, including those from top-tier consulting firms, investment banks, or asset management roles. The selection process involves multiple rounds, including video interviews, case assignments, and super days, which test both technical and behavioral competencies.

To improve your chances, focus on: - Highlighting your unique perspective as a doctor and how it can bring value to investment decisions, especially in healthcare or biotech sectors. - Demonstrating a clear passion for investing through self-study, certifications (e.g., CFA Level 1), or personal investment experience. - Preparing thoroughly for interviews, including behavioral questions and case studies.

Good luck!

  1. Yes you have a chance
  2. They look for intelligent people with creative ideas. You will need to know how to model and pitch a stock for the case study
  3. (4) If its at least as competitive as the one for undergraduates, it'll be 0.5% odds
