Post-MBA HF Compensation
Current 1st year at H/S/W (going on 2nd) interested in getting into hedge funds. I came from a traditional 2+2 background with top tier IB / MF PE experiences. I made around $400-450K my second year of PE. Anybody have any good ranges for what I should expect from a large cap HF post-MBA (stub + 1st full year)? Do they usually guarantee the first year regardless of fund performance?
Around $400k all-in
Unless market has changed guarantees I have seen for blue chip funds recruiting post-MBAs with 2+2s is 1.5x+ that number.
So ~$600K for the larger tiger cubs or tech cross over shops in the stub and 1st full year? I’m guessing it ramps up pretty quickly from there if you perform well?
I was 2+2 to MBA, now at a $1bn+ concentrated HF. My stub was $175k all in for 6 months and was pretty much exactly what all my friends got (+/- $15k). Now expect $400-600k for my first full year. Fund is doing well and I'm doing okay so maybe towards the higher end of the range.
What was the base pay on that? Does that $400-$600 range include base?
Not gonna disclose. Base varies widely. $400-600 includes all forms of comp.
Is this large cap fund SM or MM? Very different answers
I was hired post MBA at a single manager at 200 base and I think guaranteed stub yr bonus of 100k back in 2018. Obviously doesn’t matter where you start in this biz. Way more important to think about quality of the seat (longevity/learning).
Agree, but at the en did the day, I’m graduating in late 20s and thinking about family so it does kind of matter
What did you do before business school?
