Reaching out to Previous Analysts

let’s hypothetically say I’m joining a 500m to 1B AUM single manager fund. Since many of these funds don’t have much info about them online and may not have relationships with a ton of salespeople, is reaching out to previous analysts after getting to get a good way to do diligence? Or are there any obvious drawbacks from this approach?

MMPM:

No drawbacks. If the HF manager hears about you making calls, he should actually have higher respect for you. You're doing your diligence just like you would for an investment.

Would the same logic apply to asking sellside ER Analysts to be connected to former associates? Since those teams run lean and so there’s also limited info

100%. Ask to be connected to former analysts, if they refuse is red flag

Otherwise reach out to additional ones separately since the ones they give you will be the best relationships
