Real Estate to Hedge Fund - how to transition?

Currently an investment analyst at a real estate private equity shop. I've been here for about a year or so and wasn't really familiar with the finance world when I initially made the decision to jump to real estate. If Im interested in transitioning to a hedge fund, what would be the best strategy? Go back to school? Masters in Comp Sci maybe? Not sure if I'd be interested in quant or traditional L/S. Just looking for high level feedback.
