Recommended part-time job

What kind of part-time job should a person pursuing a graduate degree do in order to look more competitive for HF job?

About me:

  • I have an undergrad in Economics and Political Science.

  • I have 5 years of work experience in macroeconomic research, started as Research Associate and exited as Senior Analyst. Published a few pieces on my own as well, but mainly was just working for the strategists.

  • I can code and I have a website to show off some silly stuff (event analysis, asset rebalancing) that I coded in Python/JavaScript, running on Google App Engine. I am also familiar with basic scientific computing packages like Pandas, SciPy, NumPy, statsmodel etc.

  • I don't have a CFA and unless you guys said so, I probably won't start it anytime soon

  • Going to school for MA Econ. (I know, I know, probably quite useless, but that's what I can get at this time).

I am looking into joining a HF or any other type of AM as an analyst, hopefully, becoming associate PM someday. So, while I am in school, what kind of part-time job should I pursue in order to make myself more competitive in the job market?

Or should I just, blog, write stock pitches? and network?
