Reputable HFs that hire MBAs with unrelated exp

Are there any reputable / large HFs (L/S equity) that hire MBAs with unrelated experience? It seems like everyone I come across did some variation of the IB + corp PE route. 

Starting at a top MBA (H/S) in the fall with only RE development / REPE experience, but looking to make a transition into a more markets-focused role. Provided I know my stuff (been investing on the side for many years) and have good stock pitches, is it possible to break in directly from MBA? Or would I likely need to be an IB / ER associate first?
