Series 7 - no longer need to take?

I have a ob at a prop desk that is merging with a hedge fund. I have been studying for the Series 7 and the guy at my prop desk told me that I no longer need to take the Series 7 because we are merging with the fund. I will still be doing the exact same job and trading intra day. Does anyone know why I do not need to take the Series 7 anymore? He told me it is because I will no longer be a registered representative. Was wondering if anyone had some more insight?

Was the prop desk a Market Maker?

Jack: They’re all former investment bankers who were laid off from that economic crisis that Nancy Pelosi caused. They have zero real world skills, but God they work hard. -30 Rock

Your guy is right, but since you started studying already, you might as well take it since you don't know if you will stay with the HF or go back to a bank later on in your career and its just safer to have it.

I dont know if the prop desk was a market maker or not. I would like to still take the 7 but my boss told me since I will no longer be an RR I didnt need to and he gave me the impression I could no longer be sponsored for it. I am pretty much finished studying and paid for all the study materials so would obviously like to take it.
